As we approach the door it’s opened by a smiling and welcoming security guard. Shortly thereafter I hear an enthusiastic “Heyyyyyyyy, how are you”. I don’t recall knowing this guy but assumed my companion must. He asked how our trip was and how is everything. He took our bags to reception, presented us, and informed us if we needed anything let him know. And he was gone.
I asked my companion how she knew him and she didn’t. Uhhhhhhh. What just happened? The Istanbul EDITION just captured my heart is what happened. From that point forward every single person at The Istanbul EDITION felt like family. Not because they were putting on a show. Because they truly treat every customer as an old friend. And this is the foundation of a great hotel. A staff that understands the importance of real customer relations

Elegant Rooms with Plenty of Room to Roam
Size definitely matters. Especially in the case of Istanbul hotels. You see Istanbul hotels have a standard room size starting at 22sqm. Not particularly impressive for any 5 star property. The Istanbul EDITION, 35sqm is the smallest you’ll find. Design with tradition and modernity in mind, EDITION outfits their 78 rooms with the latest in technology and style.
Each room has a vestibule, separate bedroom area, 42″ Bang & Olufsen flat screen LCD TVs with cable and movies on-demand, wall to wall windows with views of the city, and amazingly comfortable beds. I especially liked the spacious bathroom which house a tub and separate shower. It also has a separate toilet facility. Not to mention the bathroom is the size of some full rooms in Istanbul. The Istanbul EDITION also provides an exclusive line of toiletries free for their guest.
I recommend the Deluxe room. Although the Superior and Suites are equally nice, I found the size of the Deluxe to be perfect for a couple. Spacious yet cozy. Open yet private. Upon check in if you don’t like your room just speak with reception. They were more than accommodating of request while I visited.
Staff Who Understand True Hospitality
I largely judge a hotel on their staff. Too often, luxury hotels spend millions upon millions on the facility without training their staff on how to actually work with guest. The Istanbul EDITION didn’t make that mistake.
The initial encounter above isn’t something new to me. It’s happened hundreds of times over the years. But what made this different was the sincerity and tone of the attendant. It made me forget I was checking into a hotel. Little things like that became the norm during my stay. From the housekeepers to the front desk clerks. Everyone was professional and helpful. It surely made our experience outstanding.
Plenty to keep you entertained on Property
ESPA: I wasn’t able to get a treatment while there but I was able to use their gym. Not terribly big but for a 78 room hotel it was perfect. The Spa has been consistently rated as one of the world’s best hotel spas.
Gold Bar: Located in front of reception, this bar has some DELICIOUS Turkish coffee. I also found the drink prices to be quite reasonable give their location. Anything you want can be brought to your room as well. This place has a very laid back vibe and ambiance.
Cipriani: Ahhhhhh. I hate to say anything bad about this property but the breakfast was a letdown. It maybe that my western palette isn’t used to Turkish breakfast yet. I just didn’t really enjoy it at all. However, the dinners here are quite good and reasonably priced.
Billionaire Club: One of Istanbul’s premiere nightclubs. Hosting celebrities, after parties, and some of the most beautiful people in Europe. When the club is open the hotel tries not to occupy the first two floors of the hotel as to not disturb their guest. Something I’ve rarely seen.
Location May Cause some Annoyance
Every property has a weakness. And from a recreational tourist stand point this is the Editions. Although located in a clean, beautiful, and safe area, it’s a bit away from the major tourist attractions Istanbul is known for. With that said, you won’t be at a lost for things to do. Several luxury malls, high end restaurants, and bars are within walking distance of the hotel. On demand taxi service is also available to take you anywhere you want. Within steps of the hotel entrance is an access to the cities underground system. For those looking for a more serene location this would be it.
Privacy is Paramount
The Istanbul EDITION goes above and beyond to protect guest and their privacy. Upon entry everyone’s luggage is scanned. Photography of any kind is prohibited in public areas as well as the pool and spa. Security is on hand at all times and attentive. The Istanbul EDITION is more than a luxury hotel. It’s a luxury compound where guest barely have to leave as all their needs are fulfilled here.
Business Travelers Paradise
Business travelers will love the in room work desk area and location. EDITION Istanbul is located in the heart of the financial district of Istanbul. Easy commute to the office or happy hour. Young travelers will enjoy the style and class offered by BILLIONAIRE and the privacy this property takes so seriously. Older travelers and couples will be able to immerse themselves in the luxurious ESPA and spacious rooms.
I wouldn’t recommend this property for families with small children. Although welcome and accommodating, The Istanbul EDITION really doesn’t have much to offer in the way of child friendly entertainment.
The Bottom Line
I have no qualms about saying The Istanbul EDITION is one of the best hotels in Istanbul. Comparable to properties you’ll find in London, NYC, and Tokyo. The Istanbul EDITION brand has established itself as a world leader in high end, stylish hotels. You won’t be disappointed with your decision to stay at any of their properties in the future, especially not The Istanbul EDITION.
