Common Areas Setting the Mood

Upon arrival, you’re immediately immersed in a modern take on traditional Thai décor. Housed in the same building as the chic Siam@Siam Hotel, it’s a stark contrast to see the wood tones, stone facades, and wicker design of Chao Hostel. The common areas are limited yet spacious. Providing plenty of space for guest to have a privacy or mingling with others. With plenty of outlets, comfortable seating, you may find you’re spending quite a bit of time in these areas.

A standout feature of Chao Hostel is their Media Room/Library. It’s simply beautiful and well designed. An excellent place to read or watch a movie with friends. I love how isolated it is from most rooms in the hostel so you don’t hear when things get a bit rowdy. In all honesty, I spent most of my time there quietly reading with my feet up.

Dorms and Private Rooms Offer Privacy

Chao hostel has an interesting policy. All dorms are segregated male and female. Now I’ve seen this before. Mainly in Muslim countries. I’ve always been a bit annoyed at hostels that have mixed dorms and female dorms only. Often the mixed dorms fill up while there is room in the female dorm. Leaving guys out. The only real issue I see with Chao’s policy is when you have a mixed group, which is quite normal in the backpacking world, that are traveling together and would prefer to stay together.

I was quite impressed with the craftsmanship and size of the dorm beds. These can be described more like pods than beds. A private little cove which removes the annoying squeaky shaky bed aspect of hosteling. Rooms also promoted a bit of privacy, including little reading nooks and sitting areas. Each one I saw also had readily accessible washing facilities. Preventing the awkward middle of the night bathroom run through the halls.

Private rooms really took me by surprise. Minimalist without feeling like they were missing anything. With an elevated platform bed and flat screen tv, it’s the perfect combination of privacy and minimalist living. Each room has a private bath and plenty of space for you to stretch out and relax. Especially after a long day exploring.

Location Is Key

Siam@Siam Hotel is one of Bangkok’s best-located properties. And Chao Hostel is located inside. You’ll be minutes’ walk from Bangkok’s premier shopping experiences at Siam Paragon and MBK. You’re also a short walk from the metro lines. Not to mention a decent little night market offering everything from clothes to food. What makes Chao Hostels location so go is it’s NOT on or near Khao San Road. Here’s the reality. Khao San Road is an annoyingly terrible place. Overpriced, overrated, and a bit away from several of Bangkok’s more attractive destinations. Chao Hostel gives you access to the real Bangkok.
